At The Lab, we meet people where they are. Every class, workshop, and experience is designed to honour your journey, whether you’re just beginning, healing, or deepening a lifelong practice. We blend expert guidance with compassion, holding space with care, curiosity, and accountability. Our approach isn’t about perfection; it’s about showing up, learning, and evolving together.
-
We are guided by five core principles:
Openness — Everyone is welcome here. We celebrate the diversity of Southern Vancouver Island and beyond, embracing each person’s path with warmth, kindness, and inclusivity. Honest, transparent communication is at the heart of how we connect with students, faculty, and our community.
Leadership — True leadership is service. Our teachers lead with integrity, humility, and passion, inspiring growth in others while remaining grounded in collaboration and shared responsibility.
Support — We empower each practitioner to explore wellness on their own terms. Our carefully curated classes and guidance nurture your goals, helping you feel seen, supported, and capable at every step.
Evolution — Life, like yoga, is constantly evolving. We commit to ongoing learning, integrating new insights, research, and practices into our offerings — and sharing them openly with our community.
Connection — Connection is at the center of everything we do. We cultivate spaces rooted in safety, respect, and inclusivity. Our zero-tolerance policy for discrimination reflects our dedication to creating brave, welcoming communities. Giving back to our community and land is woven into our practice, from mindful action to partnership and service.

The Lab began with a simple idea: to create a space where people could explore movement, wellness, and self-discovery within a supportive, inclusive community.
Heather Macleod founded The Lab Victoria in 2010, followed by The Lab Westshore in 2014 alongside Darci Nyal. What started as a vision for mindful movement quickly grew into something much more - a community rooted in connection, growth, and shared experience.
In early 2020, Mila stepped into the role of Manager at The Lab Westshore. The following year, Sheena Naidu joined as Manager of The Lab Victoria, marking the beginning of a new era of leadership across both studios.
What followed was a natural evolution into Operational Directors of their respective studios, united by a shared dream of ownership and a deep commitment to the spaces they were helping shape.
That dream came to life in 2023 (Westshore) and 2024 (Victoria), as Heather passed the torch - entrusting The Lab Westshore to Mila, and The Lab Victoria to Sheena and Cody White.
This transition marked the beginning of a new chapter - one that brought refreshed spaces, an expanded vision, international retreats, and elevated training programs.
Through it all, The Lab has continued to flourish, grounded in passionate teachers, dedicated students, hands-on leadership, and a shared belief that well-being thrives in connection.
Today, we continue to evolve - guided by integrity, humility, and a heartfelt commitment to the communities we serve.
